Check raising is another strategy which is designed to lure other players to bet, with the intent to make a counter raise. This gives opponents a false sense of security, causing them to bet further, thereby increasing the pot and increase winning potential.

Those who like to bluff have a strategy of raising when they are the first to act. This causes other players to raise as well and essentially call two bets at once. It is designed to limit the number of players in a game, causing many to fold. The only problem is that those remaining are usually equally aggressive or are very secure with a strong hand.

In a short-handed game, some players bet when they have a good hand and think that opponents are on a draw. If for example, a player had a top pair with a strong kicker, the chances are that others will not make their draw, given that the odds are lower. This Texas Hold em strategy is called squeezing, and is designed to limit opponent pot odds.
